Everyone’s favorite party drink, the Margarita has been one of the most popular cocktails in the world for decades. Its recipe was featured in Esquire magazine as early as 1953. Singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett loved margaritas so much, he dedicated a song and a chain of restaurants to them! Sweet, sour and salty, this cocktail offers a variety of flavors that have contributed to its immense popularity. While either will do, Cointreau is a higher quality ingredient than Triple Sec and recommended for this cocktail (it also has more alcohol in it too).
Here’s the recipe:
- 2oz silver tequila
- ¾ oz Cointreau (or 1oz Triple Sec)
- ½ oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz blue agave nectar
Combine all ingredients in shaker. Shake well. Strain over ice into a rocks glass, or strain into margarita glass. For salt on the rim -- take a lime wedge and run the citrus side around the full rim of the glass. Lightly spread some kosher salt on a small plate. Take the glass and gently place it rim side down on the plate of salt. Move the rim around the plate until the rim is sufficiently covered in salt. For a frozen margarita combine all ingredients in a blender and add one cup of ice. You're welcome.
