Not much needs to be said about this one. Easily the most iconic cocktail of them all, the Martini has been an unmistakable symbol of class and sophistication for over fifty years. Thrust into international fame by James Bond in Ian Fleming's 1953 novel, Casino Royale, the cocktail's crystal clear aesthetics put it in a class by itself when it comes to alcoholic beverages. Originally strictly a gin cocktail, over the years vodka has come to be the more popular choice for Martini drinkers. Of course, whatever main ingredient you choose for your Martini is up to your own personal preference.
Here's the recipe:
- 3 oz Gin or Vodka
- 1/2 oz Dry Vermouth
*For a Dirty Martini - add 3/4 oz of olive brine
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass or shaker bottom with ice. Stir with a bar spoon approximately twenty times until liquid is thoroughly chilled. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with one or three cocktail olives (never an even number of olives- it's bad luck!)
